"If you can find a better soup in St. Louis...well, we'll eat it," states the Fountain on Locust's menu. The bright blue art deco ice-cream parlor doesn't exactly get by on modesty. Instead, it proclaims its offerings with immense pride, and with good reason. The midtown eatery regularly rotates 47 soup recipes made from scratch every morning, including Cajun corn chowder and tomato bisque. Try the signature Polish dill pickle soup made from potatoes -- per a secret family recipe. Topped with a scattering of dill, it's light and creamy, with intriguing yet familiar flavors. Start out a meal with a cup, or double up by ordering the soup duo with a hot roll. Each flavorful soup gets spooned up piping hot, a perfect contrast to the Fountain's long list of ice-cream desserts. Why not go for both?
