Midtown? A dining destination? Tell that to most lifelong St. Louisans and they'll laugh in your face. But a funny thing has happened over the past few years: An area where your dining choices were once limited to one Italian restaurant and the Saint Louis University student union is now booming. In one building alone you can enjoy barbecue at Pappy's Smokehouse, a cold one at the Buffalo Brewing Co., and sandwiches, burgers and chili-cheese fries at the U. Across Olive Street, the Good Pie turns out Neapolitan-style pizza, and a block to the north the Fountain on Locust serves up sandwiches, soups and ice-cream sundaes. Add in Triumph Grill, and now the problem in midtown isn't finding a place to eat — it's choosing which.
