Downtown's loss is downtown Maplewood's gain. Earlier this year, Kari Kraichely up and moved her four-year-old jewelry shop, Charm, from a storefront on the edge of downtown to a new spot in the 'burbs. Kraichely told us that she was worried because several neighbors had also recently closed their stores and she knew, despite her love for downtown St. Louis, that Charm needed to feed off of other nearby shops. It couldn't bank on being a destination, she said resignedly. While we're sure she knows best, we find it kind of ironic that we're now making regular trips to Maplewood just to shop at Charm. It will always be a destination for us. Kraichely has curated an amazing array of stylish artisan-made jewelry — plus adorable hats, bags and greeting cards. We say we're shopping for our little sister — is it so bad if we also occasionally buy something for ourselves?
