Just a twenty-minute drive south of downtown, Cliff Cave Park offers an exciting landscape to explore without leaving county limits, complete with paved riverside trails for a leisurely stroll near the water or more complex winding trails through the forest where there are several scenic rocky outcroppings overlooking the river. The park's namesake cave has been gated off to protect an endangered species of bat that calls it home, but explorers can still take a peek inside or simply wander around the quiet little wooded hollow surrounding the mouth. Scaling the steep hills on either side of the cave will bring hikers to yet another set of trails that venture into the woods and away from the Mississippi River.
