The most popular appetizer on the menu at the Juniper Grill, the one that they always dish up each year for the Taste of Soulard festival, is the stuffed pasta shells. What this dish consists of is large pasta shells, stuffed with a mixture of goat cheese, crawfish and andouille sausage, all covered in a cream- and tomato-based Cajun-style sauce. Not only is it delicious, it also tells you pretty much everything you need to know about the Juniper Grill's menu. Every single dish at the Juniper Grill is delicious, and every one includes butter, cream, cheese and some manifestation of pork fat, in varying ratios. The lobster bisque is heaven, and of course contains a full gallon of heavy cream and, quite possibly, several pounds of bacon in every serving. Half the menu includes some sort of sausage; the other half is really bad for you. The food is impossible to beat; the ingredients are always impeccably fresh and local if at all possible. Just do not, under any circumstances, think about how many extra miles you would have to run to work it off. You'll feel at least a little guilty every time you leave the Juniper Grill — but it's always worth it.
