You don't have to be a hipster or an audiophile to love music on vinyl. It sounds warm and natural, and that big sleeve has plenty of room for cool art and informative liner notes. At Dead Wax there are no CDs, just a carefully curated selection of great vinyl LPs in good condition. Jazz is well represented here, including local legends like Grant Green (who shamefully doesn't have a star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame) and Miles Davis (who does). There are old classics, obscure soundtracks, R&B and soul, and the inventory is constantly refreshed, so repeat visits are always a good idea. Though you could probably go through every record in this small shop in 90 minutes or less, you will most certainly find something you like. Don't have a turntable? No problem. Dead Wax generally has some refurbished hi-fi equipment on hand. One practical note, however — it's only open Friday through Sunday, noon to 5 p.m., so plan accordingly.
