St. Nicholas

We've said it before and we'll say it again: In St. Nicholas, Joe Hanrahan did a splendid job as a jaded theater critic whose pursuit of a beautiful young actress leads him into the unlikely clutches of a coven of vampires. This play-monologue by the vibrant young writer Conor McPherson first came to life in Dublin; then the mesmerizing Brian Cox played the role in New York. But it's hard to imagine anyone digging his fangs into the role with greater control than did Hanrahan. The April production at McGurk's Pub warranted a return engagement. Good that it did, because the July outing at Café Balaban was even funnier and spookier than the first go-round.
