Moonrise Hotel

Don't judge a book by its cover. Or a building, especially if it's a hotel with a rotating moon on its roof. Behind the unassuming exterior of the Moonrise Hotel — the latest project of Loop entrepreneur Joe Edwards (cf. Blueberry Hill, the Pageant, Pin-Up Bowl) — is a visually magnetic mashup of lunar pop culture and a homage to the bygone era when we celebrated interplanetary science. Visitors will immediately notice the multicolored, incandescent staircase in the lobby and various interpretations of the hotel's celestial namesake hanging on the walls, from satellite images of the moon to photos of Edwards posing with men who have walked on it. Ten of the hotel's 125 rooms are "Walk of Fame" suites, each dedicated to a person enshrined on the Delmar Loop's Walk of Fame (another Edwards-abetted project), with art honoring their life and works. As of late summer, room rates for a weekend night started at about $169, depending on demand.
