A good music blog entertains and enlightens. A great music blog entertains, enlightens and posts free 'n legal MP3s for download — which is why Toe Taps and Spastic Claps stands above its competition. Co-run by Saint Louis University students (and Billiken Club co-bookers) Alison Arida and Sanita Saengvilay, the website specializes in the underground — whether the acts are well-loved (electro-funkateers Of Montreal, synthpop romantics Stars), up-and-coming (mash-up duo the Hood Internet, rhythmic spazzes Atlas Sound) or even mostly unknown (chamber-pop melancholics Breathe Owl Breathe). Best of all, there's no indie snobbery present in the pair's breezy, casual writing — just unadulterated enthusiasm about local concerts, bands and (in their words) "jamz." In an age when snark is king, Toe Taps is a refreshing, positive oasis for fans of music, not hype.
