Those with even a passing knowledge of our town's theater scene have no doubt heard of Linda Kennedy. The St. Louis native has been acting and directing around town for decades, as well as grooming young actors through the Black Rep's myriad education programs. But it was Kennedy's transfixing performance as Maymay in Upstream Theater's production of David Milroy's Windmill Baby that set her apart in 2014. Kennedy didn't merely carry the one-woman show. She danced with it, transforming her body, voice and presence as she brought to life some twelve separate characters (and one dog) on an abandoned cattle ranch in Western Australia. By turns sad, funny, sweet and mischievous, it was a tour de force performance, which is exactly what we've come to expect from this gifted actress.
