Best Hype About the Local Arts Scene

Art in America

Just in case anyone was wondering, St. Louis has a healthy art scene. Art in America says so. From the Arch to Richard Serra's "Twain" to the Pulitzer Foundation to Laumeier Sculpture Park, there's art here, all right. And artists, too: Michael Byron and Dawn Guernsey, to name a couple with Washington University affiliations. AiA's corresponding editor from Boston, Ann Wilson Lloyd, spent three days reconnoitering the city after being tempted here by the PR for the Wonderland show and the Pulitzer Foundation. Mrs. Pulitzer showed her around the Ando and talked up "Twain." The folks at the Forum sent her up the street to St. Louis University and the MacLennan Gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Religious Art. Somehow she found the Crowe T. Brooks Gallery downtown. Wilson, impressed with her visit, praised St. Louisans for their sense of cooperation rather than competition. Of course, after the article came out, they all bickered among themselves about who did and didn't get in. We'll see how cooperative folks are if AiA ever comes back.
