Best Hotel Perk

Clayton on the Park

In a suburban enclave where it seems conformity is everything -- must wear Nicole Miller sundress to happy hour at J. Buck's before dinner at the Crossing and ride home in date's BMW 6-series -- the London cab service offered by luxury hotel/apartment residence Clayton on the Park is as refreshing as high tea. Guests and residents are granted free, first-come-first-serve access to the property's genuine London cab, chauffeured by a professional, tuxedoed driver. Produced in London and sold through Boston-based London Cabs of North America, the $52,000 diesel-fueled ride -- pimped out with a leather interior, CD player, handicap lift, glass partition and seating for five (in the back!) -- is the real deal, though the manufacturers do install the steering wheel and pedals on the left to comply with American driving standards. Riders are taken anywhere within a four-mile radius of the hotel; the most popular destinations include Wash. U., the Galleria, Plaza Frontenac and the Loop. A one-night stay at Clayton on the Park can run about $200, so it's not exactly a free perk, but we're all for it nonetheless. The cab is on duty Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
