Best Hipster Bar

The Royale Food and Spirits

There are plenty of reasons the thirsty hipster finds himself so often at the Royale. It was one of the first bars in St. Louis to explore the craft of classic cocktails, and it still hosts a "Cocktail Museum" on Sundays at 9 p.m. Every night, a DJ spins old-school vinyl and, in the warmer months, the patio is a great spot for a cocktail, a craft beer and pub food. Adding to its hipster cred is the fact that owner Steven Smith — frequently seen in a porkpie hat — has organized fundraising and voter-registration events for Barack Obama's 2008 campaign, hosted Tibetan monks after the Festival of Nations in Tower Grove Park last year and frequently organizes a variety of community-oriented talks, presentations and debates.
