Since former KSDK desk jockey Dick Ford has been put out to pasture and long-time KMOV anchor Julius Hunter has retired, Channel 4's Larry Conners has been the elder statesman of the local nightly news. Conners has seen us through the '80s, '90s and the first decade of the new millennium with his Texas twang and no-bullshit demeanor. He's our Cronkite, our Rather, our Jennings. As befits a man of his stature, Conners continues to age gracefully. In the past year or so, he has taken a stand for all the bald (and balding) gentlemen in town; rather than go gentle with a penumbral ring of thinning hair, he went for the full-on chrome dome. And we love it: The sleek-pated Larry Conners brings an aerodynamic grace to the news desk that we can only hope will endure for years to come.
