Anthonino's Taverna

Anthonino's Taverna flies the flags of both Greece and Italy, but one bite of the gyro will leave no doubt where the restaurant's heart lies. The sandwich is overloaded with delicious gyro meat (lamb and beef, though the gamy nature of the former is more apparent), tangy tzatziki sauce, feta cheese and roasted red peppers. Other standout dishes include topnotch takes on such classic Greek dishes as saganaki (the famous flaming cheese), dolmades (grape leaves stuffed with beef and rice) and spanakopita (a crisp phyllo shell filled with spinach and feta cheese). The Italian dishes can be hard to resist, especially the pizza, which is served on a delicious, medium-thick crust. Yet even the pizza bears a Greek accent: The "Baba Ghanoush" is topped with eggplant spread, feta cheese and gyro meat, while the simply named "Greek" pizza brings feta, spinach and kalamata olives. Whatever you choose, the food is so tasty, and the familial ambiance so winning, that you won't be surprised to hear shouts of "Opa!" in the heart of the Hill.
