St. Louis is situated right in the sweet spot of the USDA's hardiness zone 6B, providing us countless options for plants that can flourish pretty much all year long. From native Missouri plants to spiky succulents, spindly ferns and exotic fruit and palm trees, Greenscape Gardens & Gifts knows how to wring the most out of our four glorious seasons. Gently winding paths meander throughout the shop's nine acres dotted with burbling fountains and gazebos and benches for respite along the way. If the 24,000 square feet sounds overwhelming, fear not: The plants are thoughtfully arranged in categories such as deer resistant, sun shrubs and shade shrubs, and helpful signs throughout offer tips like, "Please do not water...I like it dry! Dry! Dry!" Family-owned Greenscape Gardens has been tapped as one of the country's Revolutionary 100 Garden Centers of 2014, and it's affiliated with some of the area's most prestigious organizations, including the Landscape & Nursery Association of Greater St. Louis and the Missouri Botanical Garden. Get social with adult drinkies at Greenscape's periodic Thirsty Thursday happy-hour events, when 10 percent of its sales go toward Gateway Greening.
