When popular hip-hop station the Beat fell silent last fall, HOT 104.1 FM became the place to hear hip-hop and R&B on the St. Louis airwaves. It's a powerful position that Finsta — host of Sunday night's local/regional show, STL Home Jamz — doesn't take lightly. The veteran radio host, who has also helmed shows on KDHX and Q95.5, is a tireless champion of the hip-hop, rap and soul humming through the streets of the Lou, whether the music's coming from an established act or an upstart. In fact, Finsta always has his ear to the ground for new, quality acts, and he also invites experts to appear on the air and give industry advice and direction to aspiring performers. The two-hour show features interviews and performances, and the STL Home Jamz section of HOT 104.1's website (www.hot1041stl .com/author/stlhomejamz) is full of downloads and news links. It's rare that commercial radio makes room for non-cookie-cutter programming, and rarer still to find a DJ who's so consistently passionate and entertaining.
