Vincent Price made a long and fascinating career out of portraying ridiculous characters with relish and compassion. Thomas Stockman and Cinema St. Louis paid tribute to our native son's centenary in the same fashion: with gusto, understanding and a fond appreciation for his more ridiculous onscreen moments. Marshaling the forces of historians, film buffs, monster-movie fans, a theater company, two art galleries, the Missouri History Museum and (only in St. Louis!) Price's old high school, Vincentennial brought together a broad cross-section of the city to celebrate Vincent Price the actor and Vincent Price the man. A perhaps unexpected side effect of this grand fete was that all of the aforementioned organizations and institutions demonstrated the same qualities that made Vincent so remarkable: a pride in St. Louis and its people, a respect for the arts and an ability to say "the hell with it" and just have fun.
