St. Louis is a gay old town. This year, the Advocate named us one of the most gay-friendly cities in the country, and our Pride festival is considered the largest in the Midwest, with more than 80,000 folks showing up. For one magical weekend every June, Tower Grove Park is taken over. There are churches reaching out to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community, fried things on sticks, health and wellness information, drag kings and queens rocking out, and plenty more. The great thing about PrideFest is that it crosses all kinds of boundaries: Witness this summer's array of straight folks there to show support and eat Dippin' Dots, teenage lesbians holding hands in public for the first time and gay Doctor Who nerds in rainbow TARDIS T-shirts.
