Sanctuaria's Matt Seiter has been one of the leading lights of St. Louis' surging mixology scene for several years now, and people outside of town are starting to take notice: He was a finalist for the bartending contest at this year's "Paris of the Plains Cocktail Festival" in Kansas City, and last summer, the restaurant's "Cocktail Club" menu was one of four finalists for "World's Best Drink Selection" at the annual Tales of the Cocktail festival in New Orleans. The club menu alone is stunning, some 150 cocktails that trace the history of mixology from its classy earlier days to its current resurgence. Membership costs $20, which includes a notebook to track your progress through the list. Even if you don't join the club, however, Sanctuaria offers a selection of terrific, sophisticated drinks, like the "Siiac Smash" (with tequila, honey, orange, cucumber, hibiscus syrup and the restaurant's own ginger beer) and the "Tramp Swizzle," which tops a blend of gin, calvados, honey, lemon juice and peach bitters with a splash of Cava.
