Now this is a diner. Cozy booths jammed against the wall, a wide counter with chrome stools, over which there's a flat-screen TV showing Great Day St. Louis and graphic footage of butt-enhancement surgery (which is, it turns out, a fairly disgusting procedure). On the menu there's all the basic breakfast food: eggs, pancakes, bacon, fried potatoes and, naturally, the slinger. It's served all day, but you might be better served trying out one of the daily specials — a full meal with sides for under ten bucks — or the brats or pork steaks barbecued out back. And there's pie! Even if you've never been here before, the servers will treat you like a regular, asking how you're doing like they really mean it and making sure your coffee cup is always full. It's easy to neglect Billie's, tucked away between Soulard Farmers' Market and the river, but that would be a shame. Just get there before 2:30 p.m., because that's when Billie's shuts its doors for the day.
