The Civil Life Brewing Company may not be as flashy as some of its St. Louis microbrewing brethren, but that's exactly why we love it. It's cash-only, has no phone number and there's nary a television screen in sight. Jake Hafner and Dylan Mosley opened Civil Life in 2011 and regularly release new session ales, which are between 4 and 6 percent ABV. The wood-paneled brewpub is like the offspring of an English pub and a German bierhall. It even features a charming little library. There are also two patios, and one of them can be rented for private events. The brewers regularly write about Civil Life's beers on its website, making craft beer accessible to those of us not deep in the beer-geek community. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, Civil Life will make you feel at home.
