Prairie Rehab is a relatively new band, but its roots come from one of St. Louis' best-loved country acts. Three-fourths of the band played in the Linemen, a classic-country quartet that disbanded when lead singer Kevin Butterfield left town. The three remaining members — bassist Greg Lamb, pedal steel player Scott Swartz and drummer John Baldus — put out a Craigslist ad for a female singer and hit paydirt with Texas native Lacie Mangels. Her honeyed vocals are clear and sweet, with traces of Laura Cantrell's straight-shooting delivery, but Mangels has already shown an aptitude for endowing her songs with a touch of righteous indignation — a trait that all the best country crooners know how to wield.
