Hard-rocking country-blues duo Shovels & Rope probably could have sold out the Off Broadway music venue on its own, but with LA-based lyrical rock band Dawes headlining, the joint was at sweating-room-only from start to finish. And the headliners proved more than up to the task of following the wild-and-loose opener. Singer Taylor Goldsmith beamed all night long, relishing the chance to play at a small rock & roll club, singing not like his Laurel Canyon influences, but biting and savoring every line and knowing just when to let the crowd take a verse or a chorus (which was often). Throw in an absolutely unironic cover of Bob Seger's gorgeous "We've Got Tonight" and a group cover of the Traveling Wilburys' "End of the Line" to wrap it up, and you have the kind of rock show you're simply never going to witness again.
