Best Burger

Three Flags Tavern

Between 2 and 5 p.m. at Three Flags Tavern, after lunch service has stopped but before dinner service has begun, one of the only items available is the brisket burger. The bartenders tell of hungry diners who at first complain about the limited menu, but then quickly eat their words after reaching burger heaven. Frankly, in spite of all the deliciousness on Three Flags' lunch and dinner menus, if the burger was all it ever offered, it would still rank as one of the best restaurants in town. The plump, house-ground beef brisket is so juicy it tastes as though the patty has been stuffed with butter. Served on a fresh potato bun with bacon, lettuce, tomato and red onion, the sandwich is perfection, but those wanting to take it to dramatic heights can add a slice of luscious Délice de Burgogne for no extra charge. The gooey cheese melts and combines with the juices to form a kind of sauce. The word on the street is that the employees of a nearby establishment famous for its burgers come here for the brisket burger when they get off work. Yes. It's that good.
