Urban Chestnut Brewing Company co-founder and brewmaster Florian Kuplent hails from Munich, and the brewery he and partner (and fellow Anheuser-Busch alum) David Wolfe opened earlier this year combines the innovation and passion of the American craft-beer movement with a respect for the brewing traditions of Germany, a nation that for centuries mandated by law the four -- and only four -- ingredients permissible in beer. Urban Chestnut refers to its philosophy as "Beer Divergency" and divides its brews into the categories "Revolution" and "Reverence." The former includes the delightful Hopfen, which gives a German twist to the classic IPA recipe, and the restaurant's signature brew, the "Winged Nut," which includes chestnuts in the recipe. The "Reverence" beers feature the awesomely named Schnickelfritz, a Bavarian-style wheat beer (yes, that is a banana aroma), and the malty, refreshing altbier called Schlossturm. There is plenty for beer geeks to obsess over with Urban Chestnut's beer, but for those who just want a great brew, don't fret: Just divide the selections into "Amazing and Delicious" and "Delicious and Amazing."
