All the art that's fit to print

The Front Room at Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (3750 Washington Boulevard; 314-535-4660 or www.contemporarystl.org) is a rapid-redress show space designed to stop-motion capture art of the moment. Capturing Dexter Sinister, the New York based pamphleteers and proprietors of Just-In-Time Workshop & Occasional Bookstore (yes, that's plural; Dexter Sinister is a single entity), is a perfect fit. Printing has enjoyed a huge renaissance of late – the kids love concert posters – and David Reinfurt and Stuart Bailey (the component parts of Dexter Sinister) are building something new in that field. Dexter Sinister’s print work encompasses subjects such as a collection of Mark E. Smith’s lyrics (of seminal postpunk band The Fall) and posters for 19th century French drama, combined with a penchant for heraldry. How is just-in-time different from print-on-demand? Find out in the Front Room from Wednesday, January 7, through Sunday, January 17. The gallery is closed on Monday and Tuesday, and admission is $3 to $5 but free on Wednesday and Saturday.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 7. Continues through Jan. 17, 2009
