Beggars Can Be Ballers

For the better part of two years now, the Beggar's Carnivale has been staging its spectacle both here in St. Louis and in parts near and far. You thought they were doing it to amuse you, but there was a plan behind all those burlesque high jinks. Each performance was an experiment, a constant fine-tuning of what the show was and what it could be. And now, just in time for New Year's Eve, the finished project has arrived: The Beggar's New Year's Eve Ball features the best elements of the Carnivale, wrapped up in a cloud of feathers and glitz for the biggest party night of the year. All your favorites -- Lola van Ella, Sammich the Tramp, Lula Houp Garou -- plus special guest performers come together to create a bonanza of burlesque, aerialists and Vaudeville. The show starts at Casa Loma Ballroom (3354 Iowa Avenue), and tickets start at $69, which include the show, appetizer buffet and Champagne toast. VIP options ($350 for four people) are available as well. E-mail [email protected] for reservations.
