Become Teacher's Pet

Students just beginning the school year are probably trying to get a good read on their teachers. Figuring out who will tolerate tardiness and who wants to embarrass those not paying attention during class is knowledge that's sure to pay off in the coming months — in addition to the smarts gained by actually studying, of course. Luckily for those enrolled in art courses at St. Louis Community College-Meramec, they can get a little glimpse inside two of their instructors' artistic minds during New Faculty Exhibition: Betsy Morris and James Ibur, which is showing at the Meramec Contemporary Art Gallery (11333 Big Bend Road; 314-984-7632). These faculty members both appreciate nature, yet the outdoor environment manifests in an individual fashion in each artist's work: Morris' photographs highlight the soothing twists and turns of flora, while Ibur's sculpture work shows off the organic form at its most wild and unusual. See for yourself what your teachers have to offer until Friday, October 13, when the exhibit closes — you just might learn something (besides how to kiss up). The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Mondays-Saturdays. Starts: Sept. 12. Continues through Oct. 13
