Bear In Heaven

8 p.m. Saturday, July 31. Luminary Center forfor the Arts, 4900 Reber Place.

Bear In Heaven is the brainchild of Jon Philpot, who, like most Brooklyn musicians, doesn't hail from there. Philpot started recording solo work in 2003 and was later joined by drummer Joe Stickney (who has worked with minimalist virtuoso Rhys Chatham and also tours with Panthers), guitarist Adam Wills and Sadek Bazaraa. The quartet crafts lofty krautrock that is at once understated and imposing, while its psych leanings are tempered with classic pop structures and shoegaze conceits. Philpot's androgynous vocals lend dreamy distinction to Bear In Heaven's shape-shifting rock; they oscillate from melodic drone to ambient electronica without losing accessibility.
