Solo bedroom recordists such as Will Wiesenfeld (a.k.a. Baths) who have the ability to work alone and create well-edited, exploratory electronic compositions are few and far between. These days, the endless creative choices offered up by home-studio setups can create just as many pitfalls as they do possibilities. But Wiesenfeld's music is full of stimulating, captivating sound collages that often sound like long-lost sections of analog tape picked up off the Abbey Road Studios cutting-room floor. Rhythm plays a key role as well; sparse slivers of electronic material weave into intricate hemiolas that are definitely mathy but stick around long enough to induce some very soothing, trance-like moments.
