Bark or Treat

Fall has arrived, which means the weather — cool and breezy — is perfect for dog-based outdoor activities. Dogs exult in autumnal radiance, so don't deny them the pleasure. And looky here: Country Acres Rescue (739 Weidman Road, Ballwin; 636-227-1919 or www.countryacresrescue.org) hosts its annual Halloween for dogs and friends event, Howl and Yowl, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday (October 24 and 25). Carnival games, a haunted house and pumpkin painting are all a little more human-centric than dog-centric, but the two big dog attractions are obviously the puppy petting ring and the Howl-O-Ween dog costume contest held at 3:30 p.m. both days. Dogs in costume are hilarious, and a sure spirit-booster every time. Admission to Howl and Yowl is free for dogs and people, but you'll need cash to purchase carnival tickets (good for games and activities) and concessions (for both people and dogs).
