Art Off its Leash

Although Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood; 314-241-2337) makes it easy to imbibe on its small-batch brews, there's no need to worry about beer goggles at the annual Art Outside at Schlafly, Friday, September 7, through Sunday, September 9. Now in its ninth year, the art show features St. Louis-area artists who've passed the jury, meaning you won't wind up with anything painted on black velvet that spoke to you after too many APAs. Leave the art snobbery at home in favor of creative sculpture (Felicia Breen and Chad Nelson), wearable fiber art (Rebecca Brinkhorst), functional ceramics (Ashley Anderson Drissell), jewelry and and accessories (Kim Caisse) and lots of mixed media (Jeff Brawn). Live entertainment includes local bands, a puppet theater and fire performances. Admission is free, and the entertainment is served alongside Bottleworks' extensive menu with beloved seasonal favorites Oktoberfest and Pumpkin Ale on tap. Have a few to loosen the purse strings -- you won't regret it in the morning. For a full schedule and list of participating artists, visit schlafly.com/events/calendar/2012/09/07/art-outside.
