When you think back on 2008, are you reflecting on a year during which you took chances? Or are you remembering that you went to the same old places with the same old people? If you find that you're needing to expand your horizons in 2009 — at least in the realms of food, drink and company — may we recommend turning over a new lettuce leaf at the St. Louis Food & Wine Experience? This fundraiser for the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis is held in the Khorassan Ballroom at the Chase Park Plaza (212 North Kingshighway Boulevard), and the benefit features tasty food samples that you can wash down with about a jillion wines. With a selection like that, you're bound to try eats and drinks unfamiliar to your palate, and you just might make some new friends in the process! Plus, you can look on as celebrity chefs (such as Tony La Russa, pictured with his assistants) prepare their favorite recipes and pick up a few tips for your own kitchen. Admission to this eye- and mouth-opening event costs $45 to $100, and designated drivers pay $25; to make a purchase, visit www.repstl.org. The Food & Wine Experience runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday (January 24 and 25).
