Every year in Alton Rock Spring Park is transformed into a twinkling Christmas Wonderland
through the magic of 2.5 million lights. These lights are hung by volunteers known as the Grandpa Gang, and they string up trees, make cascading waterfalls of lights and create massive, multicolored displays. The first Monday after Thanksgiving is reserved for a walk-through night, at which no cars drive through the park so you can take it all by foot. All other nights are drive-through only, so you can cover more ground and see more of those millions of bulbs. 6-9 p.m. Mon. through Fri., 5-9 p.m. Sat. & Sun. (Nov. 28-Dec. 28). Rock Spring Park (College Avenue and Rock Springs Park Drive, Alton, Illinois; christmaswonderlandofaltonil.net). $7 for cars and small vans, $1 for walk-through.
Mondays-Fridays, 6-9 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 6-9 p.m. Starts: Nov. 28. Continues through Dec. 28, 2014
