In recent years, Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis has preferred to be country's sweetheart instead of an indie-rock goddess. Thankfully, Athens, Georgia's Allison Weiss fills the latter's sweet-and-sour pop niche quite well, thanks to a twang-hiccupped vocal style and tough-girl tunes. Unsurprisingly, the college senior's latest album, Was Right All Along (which is streaming on www.allisonw.com), conjures RK's best moments, although her conversational confessions and acoustic-guitar-and-piano conflations also resemble sister act Tegan and Sara. After Weiss graduates in spring of 2010, her career options certainly seem limitless — in fact, she already has tour dates booked with fellow sassy troubadour Jenny Owen Youngs in the new year.
