All Hands on the Bad One

Every gal will fall victim to slut-shaming at some point in her life -- whether it's by other women, men or a conservative pundit. When it becomes socially acceptable to call a stranger who speaks openly about insurance mandates for contraceptives "slut" and "prostitute" on nationally syndicated radio, it's clear that the "war on women" is more than a hashtag or political rhetoric. In response to the recent (ahem) rush of lady-hate, Left Bank Books and That Uppity Theatre Company present Sticks & Stones: Sluts Talk Back. Writers, elected officials, musicians and activists (including representative Stacey Newman) will gather at the downtown location of Left Bank Books (321 North Tenth Street; 314-436-3049 or for a slut-centric discussion at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 14. Debasing language, reproductive rights and domestic violence will be covered, but all are welcome to attend this free event and contribute to the affirmative dialogue.
