A Very Ludo Christmas

7:30 p.m. Sunday, December 28. The Pageant, 6161 Delmar Boulevard.

Each of the last four years has ended with Ludo playing its annual homecoming holiday extravaganza, "A Very Ludo Christmas," at the Pageant. And each year, the quintet returns to its hometown even more successful. In 2008 Ludo released its major-label debut, You're Awful, I Love You, and earned a modest amount of critical praise and a very respectable commercial showing. But this success is no fluke; it's built on the band's tireless work ethic and nonstop touring. Singer-guitarist Andrew Volpe excels at writing catchy, radio-ready pop gems, but unlike many of its modern radio counterparts, Ludo sees the value in constructing challenging, diverse and sometimes goofy arrangements, all of which truly distinguish it from the rest of the pack.
