In the dystopian society of the 1976 film Logan's Run
, humans reside in a bubbled metropolis, where everyone lives fast and dies young -- vaporized at age 30 to keep the population under control. Pleasure is the primary pursuit, so the populace is laser-focused on gettin' some while the gettin's good. To expedite date night, whoopee-makers enter a networked database called the Circuit, which allows Logan (Michael York) to use his remote control to tune in his turn-on, then beam the willing participant into his bachelor pad for a look at more than just his etchings. Tonight the St. Louis Science Center (5050 Oakland Avenue; 314-289-4424 or www.slsc.org/novanights
) invites everyone 21 and older to select the partner of their choice for a romantic evening under the shooting stars at Nova Nights
. The doors open at 7 p.m. with a Live Sky Tonight presentation celebrating the annual Perseid meteor shower, and the evening concludes with a screening of Logan's Run
. There's also a cash bar. Admission is $10 to $15.
