A Midwinter Night's Disco

by

Shakespeare's plays have been dissected and re-imagined countless times, but never like this. The Black Rep presents a rendition of A Midsummer Night's Dream set in 1970s St. Louis, with all the disco and -- we can only hope -- roller skates one would expect. After all, why pretend you're in Stratford-upon-Avon when you're in the Midwestern home of rock 'n' soul? Despite the blustery weather of St. Louis in February 2012, the forecast for this '70s Midsummer Night calls for a chance of mirror balls, funky fairies and a polyester-clad Puck. Board Shakespeare's soul train at the Grandel Theatre (3610 Grandel Square) tonight at 7 p.m. through Sunday, March 4. Tickets are $20 to $47 and can be purchased at 1-800-293-5949 or www.metrotix.com.
