A Howling Good Time

If no one else is going to do it, then Ms. Day is going to speak up for the wolves: Stop naming your bands after these beautiful, misunderstood creatures! Seriously, it's enough already. Not only do the wolves dislike what humans consider to be music (and not even all humans are on board with what some of these wolf bands play), but the animals don't get a cut of the album sales or anything. And the songs aren't even about wolves! If you're so interested in honoring wild canids, why not do so at the upcoming Wolf Fest? Held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Endangered Wolf Center at Washington University's Tyson Research Center (6750 Tyson Valley Road, Eureka), this celebration of wolves seeks to raise awareness about these endangered animals and educate the public about what is being done at the center to help them. At the fest you can photograph wolves from around the world, observe them as they eat (feeding times are at 11:30 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.) and check out the skills of some of their cousins, the puppy dogs: Support Dogs Inc., the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department's Canine Unit and the Gateway Sled Dog Club all host educational sessions throughout the day. Plus, there will be activities specifically for kids and performances by the Kahok Dancers. Admission to the wolf party is $15 per car, a fee that supports the center's conservation efforts; to learn more call 636-938-5900 or visit www.endangeredwolfcenter.org.
