A Good Time By Design

When crafted by the right hands, everything from a sofa to a salad bowl can become a work of art. Some form-meets-function items are mass-produced (see: IKEA, Michael Graves' never-ending line for Target); others retain the artisanal quality that makes them so special. See plenty examples of the latter at FORM 2010, a showcase of architectural design, functional objects and modern furniture. The Luminary Center for the Arts (4900 Reber Place) — well-respected for its dedication to working artists — hosts FORM on Saturday, August 14, with a VIP Preview Event on Friday, August 13. On Saturday, drop by the Luminary between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and see work by artists who are known on the local and national design scenes. Repping the Lou are such firms as Niche Interior Design and Furnishings, SPACE Architecture + Design, and Centro Modern Furnishings. Your super-affordable admission fee ($7 in advance, $10 the day of the show) also includes informative workshops. Design-lovers who choose to attend the VIP Preview Event can bid on original pieces in a silent auction, sip complimentary beer from New Belgium (and munch complimentary snacks from Vin de Set), and listen to both a DJ and a guest speaker (presumably not at the same time). Tickets to the VIP event are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Proceeds from both Friday and Saturday go to the designers and to the Luminary's new artist equipment library.
