A Fair to Remember

Oh, Jersey County Fair, why have you stayed away so long? Ms. Day has missed your down-home good times something fierce, and she would appreciate your consideration of a twice-a-year schedule, mkay? Anywho, onto what she's looking forward to this year (the fair runs from Saturday, July 9, through Sunday, July 17). There's Kandu the Magician's shows (Tuesday through Sunday), the free petting zoo (from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday), the US Freestyle Motocross Championship Series (at 7 p.m. on Thursday), the 4-H livestock auction (at 7 p.m. on Monday -- Day's thinking about joining the urban farmsteading movement) and the dizzying, topsy-turvy carnival rides (spinning from 6 to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday; all-you-can-ride armbands cost $20). Of course, there's much more to be enjoyed during the fair's run and a little something for everyone -- visit www.jerseycountyfair.com to see what you might fancy, along with directions to the fairgrounds (located on Route 67 in Jerseyville, Illinois) and event hours. Admission to the fun costs $2 to $3, and grandstand entertainment costs an additional $2 to $13, depending upon the night.
