Printmaker Tom Huck carves his art out of epic-scale woodblocks with a meticulousness that belies his reputation as Potosi's Most Wanted. The dark lord of Evil Prints spends months pinking away at the surface until only the basest and most vile side of human nature remains on the block; then he covers it with black ink and stamps our nightmares into reality. Hillbilly knife fights, plastic surgery as blood sport, animal husbandry taken to inappropriate levels of affection — these stark blasts of depravity are Huck's métier and his muse. Tom Huck: Brutal Truths, the new exhibition at Saint Louis University Museum of Art (3663 Lindell Boulevard; 314-977-2666 or sluma.slu.edu), features more than 45 of the artist's prints drawn from all of his major series. Brutal Truths opens with a free public reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 18. The exhibition remains up through Sunday, April 17; the museum is open Wednesday through Sunday.
