A Brainy Picture

Before zombies cashed in their scary-monster status to become overused metaphors for everything (liberals! conservatives! consumers!), they were some truly nasty creeps, and never more so than in one grimy, grainy little independent feature out of Pittsburgh. Tonight George Romero's iconic vision of the undead apocalypse Night of the Living Dead screens as part of the Webster Film Series at the Moore Auditorium (470 East Lockwood Avenue; 314-968-7487 or www.webster.edu/filmseries). If Michael Jackson had anything to do with the last time a zombie picture gave your spine a tingle, you owe it to yourself to rediscover the ultimate flesh-chomping, brain-bashing, shuffling-corpse film that's been keeping moviegoers awake and regular for 45 years. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $5 to $6.
