Two St. Louis county high school students have been arrested after a loaded gun was found at their school on Tuesday.
School officials at McCluer High School in Florissant got a tip Tuesday that one student was in possession of a loaded firearm on the premises, Fox 2 reports
. With the help of a Florissant school resource officer, the administration investigated and soon found the gun and the student.
The student was arrested, but has not been publicly identified by police. That case is being handled by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s office.
A second student was also taken into custody for taking the gun from the first student and hiding it in a backpack, police say. That case went to St. Louis County Family Court. Both students who were arrested are juveniles.
School administrators tell KSDK
that the school did not go on lockdown following the report of the firearm because they were able to find it "immediately."
"We did receive a report yesterday of a student with a gun. Administration and the School Resource Officer immediately investigated and located the student and the handgun," the school tells KSDK
in a statement. "The student and another student who helped hide the gun were arrested.
"We are thankful we received the report," the statement continues. "We encourage students if they see something to say something and report any unsafe situation or rumors to a trusted adult or through our online reporting tool, www.psstworld.com
. You can find a link on our school website or directly on the PsstWorld website."
