A burglary suspect was shot after a resident returned home, police say.
An armed burglar was hospitalized Tuesday night after he was shot by a resident, authorities say.
The twenty-year-old thief and an accomplice had broken into a house in the Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood, triggering the alarm, according to police. A 26-year-old who lives there was away from home at the time but returned when he was alerted by a notification from his security system.
The resident told police he arrived in time to see the two intruders climbing out of his window. Fearing for his safety, he fired on the two men, striking the twenty-year-old while the accomplice ran off, police say.
Police responded about 10:30 p.m., and the wounded suspect was transported to the hospital. His condition was described as serious but stable. Police say he had been armed with a gun when he was shot. The second suspect is still at large.
