The "Nap Mobile" will be making a stop this weekend at Pride St. Louis
St. Louis' gay pride parade: a perfect time for celebration, dancing, music, and... sleep?
Among the guests at this weekend's PrideFest will be "Nap Mobile," which will offer parade-goers the opportunity to catch some shut-eye ... right in the middle of the festivities.
New York-based sleep startup Casper is sponsoring the Nap Mobile with the goal of showing off how its mattresses and accessories can bring peaceful sleep to any situation. (And, sure, the press coverage won't hurt either.) Each pod's mattresses, pillows and sheets are all Casper's design, and part of the innovations that made Time
's list of 25 best inventions of 2015.
The Nap Mobile itself is a trailer with four napping pods plugged into the side. At Pride, festival-goers will be able to schedule a period to get a little shuteye without leaving the celebration.
St. Louis is the fifth of seven stops on the Nap Mobile's tour. Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer Luke Sherwin explained that the trailer was inspired by Japanese capsule hotels, with the goal of "bringing total sensory deprivation even in a crowded place."
"It's taking people in the most crowded places and immediately putting them in an extremely relaxing environment," he adds. "They would never expect to be able to go to sleep so easily in the setting, which I think is really cool."
Now, the question on your mind at this point is probably pretty obvious: Will "napping" be the only thing that goes on in these pods this weekend? After all, there are two pillows in each pod.
But Sherwin says that, when you sign up for a spot, it will be made very clear what is acceptable in the Nap Mobile. Spoiler alert: Sleep is what will be acceptable.
