Phillip Cutler, 35, faces two murder charges in the killing of a pregnant St. Louis teacher.
The Circuit Attorney issued at-large warrants for Cutler, and he was arrested and held in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where he lives, authorities announced on Friday morning.
Peters, 30, was seven months pregnant when she was shot dead in the 4200 block of West Pine Boulevard. She had been a third grade teacher at Mann Elementary and was expecting a girl.
Her boyfriend told police he found her lying unconscious in bed. Cutler was a childhood friend of Peters' boyfriend and had his keys to her home, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported
Cutler was initially taken into custody the night she was killed but was later released, and he bolted back to Oklahoma. Peters' boyfriend, identified as Cornelius Green, was also questioned by police after the fatal shooting. He piqued investigators' interest in Cutler after calling his estranged wife from the police station, asking her to give Cutler keys to Green's car so he could move it away from Peters' neighborhood, the Post-Dispatch
reported. Police intercepted the meeting before Cutler could follow through.
Green, reportedly a principal at Carr Lane Visual and Performing Arts Middle School
, hasn't been charged.
