A St. Louis County Police Officer was shot and injured during a disturbance call in north St. Louis County Sunday morning, but there's a chance another officer wounded the suspect by returning fire before he escaped.
Police are searching for Eric Fowler, 27, of the 5400 block of Thrush Avenue, who faces warrants for first-degree assault on a police officer and armed criminal action. Fowler is armed and dangerous, police said.
Here's what went down, according to police.
Around midnight on Sunday morning, two St. Louis County Police Central County Precinct officers got a call for a disturbance in the 5800 block of Eagle Valley. Neighbors said a suspicious man was trying to enter the residence, and a woman was seen running out the back.
When police arrived, officers saw a man scurry away into a gray Dodge Avenger and back out of his parking space. The officers, who were between the car and the parking lot exit, approached the car until the driver stopped, pulled out a gun and started shooting, according to police reports.
A St. Louis County officer, who has been with the department for more than one year, was shot in his gun belt. He was taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The second officer, a Velda City Police officer, returned fire, and police say the officer may have struck the suspect.
